Khayelitsha-Auditorium

This was a project/tender I completed alongside my college, TAG443 (The Academy of Guilds).  The brief was to design an auditorium fit for conferences as well as to serve for educational purposes in the township of Khayelitsha.

 

The design of the building took form to that of the "baby grand' piano. Where one side of the roof would be elevated and slightly overlapping the roof of the other, obtaining the look of the mentioned piano when in use.

 

Although we completed the work on time, the college was not awarded the tender and the effort put in was simply added to my portfolio of works.

 

It was about a week ago that my lecturer contacted me, asking me to enter a certain student competition. The brief was to enter a piece of work completed during your studies showing your involvement of Graphisoft- ArchiCAD and your functional capabilities within the software.

So this project wasn't a waist after all!

 

I actually cant wait to participate in another competition. Its time to move forward!

The Art Pavilion (T.A.P)

The Art Pavilion, an assignment completed not so long ago was to inspire the use of space and how to meet the client’s needs.  

The actual building is to be erected in the back garden of an existing property; therefore size plays quite the significant role. Bearing in mind only three major pieces had to fill the space at any given time. Namely a scaled version of the Tatlin Tower by Vladimir Tatlin, the red blue chair by Reitveld and an ancient African entrance door.

The building itself had to perform as an art piece, something looked upon just as the art work held within it. Designing to hold the certain pieces came across quite enjoyable, using details of the art work to form the features of the building and in a greater scale designing the building to enhance the visual effects of the art pieces.For instance, by creating a gathering area on top of the gallery this enabled me to add in a sky light which purposely is situated directly above the scaled Tatlin Tower, with the tip of it dramatically projecting through the slab and into the glass box (sky light).

The second part of the project was to design a logo for the “art Gallery” and thereafter create a franchising spec book. Which in turn, I had to create the idea myself by taking an existing building and converting it to the art pavilion (TAP).

Room renovation

  

Here is a simple room renovation I have done for a friend, firstly the room was drawn up in Sketch-up and then I completed the renders in Artlantis (my second time using the software!!!) I must say I'm quite chuffed with this and am very eager to continue my journey with Artlantis!
